Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Programs and Partnerships, the Senior Coordinator, Immigration coordinates projects and partnerships to assist in the attraction, welcoming and settlement of immigrants to the community, and provides support for the work of the London Newcomer Strategy Advisory Body and the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership.  Additionally, the position supports the work of the Director, Manager and Advisors in the Anti-Racism and Anti-Oppression Division by developing linkages between the work of groups supporting newcomer and immigrant communities and the Division, researching and recommending strategies to improve the experience of newcomers and immigrants to the community and to combat and interrupt forms of racism, xenophobia and oppression.

Work Performed:

  • Work to build trust and strengthen the City's relationship with immigrants and newcomers, among others, who may experience marginalization, oppression, racism or other barriers to services, and the agencies that provide supports to those individuals and communities, in order to connect individuals and groups to enhanced opportunities for meaningful civic engagement.
  • Coordinate and implement projects and partnerships and identify or facilitate the development of funding sources to assist in the attraction, welcoming, and settlement of immigrants, refugees and newcomers to the community.
  • Support London Newcomer Strategy Advisory Body planning agendas, coordinating meetings and taking minutes, supporting co-chairs and chairs, and implementing workplans and projects.
  • Support the Manager, Strategic Programs and Partnerships in the administration of the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership.
  • Complete research and analyze relevance of policy papers from other municipalities, agencies and orders of government; recommend models and approaches for application to the City of London.
  • Monitor federal and provincial policy developments regarding immigration; coordinate a municipal and/or London Newcomer Strategy response to other orders of government as required.

  • Develop, analyze and/or update policies and procedures to support strategic directions and program and project deliverables for immigrants, refugees and newcomers; facilitate consultation and engagement with community groups.  
  • Support staff in determining eligibility for services for permanent residents, refugees, and temporary residents. 
  • Partner with the Communications and Government Relations Division in the development of communication plans and key messages regarding the London & Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership and update the information pages on the City website and the intranet. 
  • Manage project communications including preparation of reports and presentation material for City Council and any other meetings as requested
  • Make efforts to integrate the perspectives and needs of immigrants, refugees and newcomers enterprise-wide.
  • Monitor and administer related budget on behalf of the Manager; make recommendations to support budgeting processes.
  • Support award and recognition events, and other community events, as part of work plans, developing and implementing plans, preparing related materials, and communicating with participants.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment.

  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Engage in opportunities to work across Divisions and Service Areas in support of enterprise-wide collaboration.  Provide information and advice to City staff on related projects and committees as required.
  • Support the development of processes and tools needed to increase efficiencies and improve the effectiveness of services provided by the Division.
  • Assist with research or special projects as required as directed by the Manager, Strategic Programs and Partnerships and contribute to the application of an anti-racism and anti-oppression framework for all communications, programs and services.

  • Ability to provide a high level of attention to detail, make sense of data and solve problems.
  • Ability to understand the importance of service delivery; contribute to the implementation of initiatives that support stakeholders and the public in a timely and effective way.
  • Strong organizational skills including but not limited to planning, prioritizing, time management and the ability to multi-task.
  • Demonstrated advanced ability to use Microsoft Office suite of programs including Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 

Qualifications:

University degree in a relevant area of study or equivalent combination of education and related professional and lived community experience.

Certification as a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant is an asset.

Lived experience as an immigrant is an asset.

Proficiency in French is an asset.  Languages other than English and French are an asset.

Lived experience as a person who can acknowledge and speak to the social, political, cultural, spiritual, health and economic history, challenges, and opportunities, and the impact of systemic racism, xenophobia and oppression, relevant to immigrants or newcomers is an asset.

Demonstrated experience working with diverse communities such as immigrants, refugees, and newcomers.

Must have the ability to attend occasional meetings outside normal working hours.

 

Compensation & Other Information:

$76,322 - $99,598

This posting is for 1 temporary full-time up to 2 years position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid.

These hours of work and work arrangement are subject to change in accordance to business requirements.
