Intern - Storybook Gardens

Summary of Duties:

The Special Events Programmer at Storybook Gardens is responsible for the planning, development, and execution of diverse and engaging events that reflect the rich cultural tapestry of the City of London. This role will involve collaborating with community partners, managing budgets, and creating programming that is inclusive and accessible to all members of the community, including children, families, and sensory-friendly populations.

Work Performed:

• Event Planning and Coordination:
  • Develop, plan, and implement a range of special events, including Festival Fridays, seasonal celebrations, and signature programming throughout the year.
  • Collaborate with community organizations, local artists, and cultural groups to design events that celebrate diversity and promote inclusivity.
• Programming Development:
  • Create engaging and themed programming for Festival Fridays, ensuring free admission for children and utilizing sponsorship dollars effectively.
  • Design daily programming in the park that highlights multicultural themes, featuring a variety of entertainers and performers.
• Community Engagement:
  • Build and maintain relationships with community partners to enhance event offerings and outreach.
  • Actively seek feedback from the community to continually improve programming and ensure it meets the needs of diverse populations.
• Accessibility and Inclusion:
  • Develop unique special events catered to sensory-friendly populations, ensuring a welcoming and accommodating environment for all attendees.
  • Promote and celebrate diverse community holidays through tailored events that encourage participation from various cultural groups.

• Logistics and Administration:
  • Document event timelines, and logistical details, ensuring all events run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Plan staffing model and volunteer efforts for events.
• Marketing and Promotion:
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop promotional plans for events through various channels, ensuring maximum visibility and engagement.
  • Create promotional materials and content that effectively communicate the mission and vision of Storybook Gardens

Qualifications:

Eligibility under the City of London Internship Program as follows (see below):

MUST MEET CRITERIA AS EITHER A NEW IMMIGRANT, PERSON WITH A SELF-DECLARED DISABILITY, INDIGENOUS PERSON, RACIALIZED PERSON/VISIBLE MINORITY, OR A RECENT LOCAL POST-SECONDARY GRADUATE.
 

New immigrant:

• Persons who have gained permanent residency status and/or naturalized citizenship status; having arrived in Canada 0 – 5 years.
• Graduate of a recognized post-secondary education institute with Canadian equivalency
• English benchmark level 6 or above
• Legally entitled to work in Canada

OR

Person with a self-declared disability which poses employment barriers:

Experience:

Strong understanding of diverse communities and cultural programming.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively.

Organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Experience with budget management and financial planning.

Creative mindset with a passion for engaging and inclusive programming.

Compensation & Other Information:

$22.44/hour

This posting is for one (1) temporary full-time up to 15 weeks position.

Current hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Work Arrangement: On-site. Subject to change in accordance with business requirements.
