Transdev Ontario is recruiting for a Labour Relations Manager to be based in our Kitchener, GTA (Etobicoke) or Hamilton office location.
Your Role:
Reporting to the VP, Human Resources the Labour Relations Manager will be responsible for managing all labour relations activities within various sectors within the organization. This includes leading collective bargaining negotiations, handling grievances and arbitrations, ensuring compliance with industry specific labour laws, and fostering strong relationships between management, employees, and unions. The ideal candidate will have deep experience in labour relations, preferably within the transportation industry, with a thorough understanding of unionized workforce dynamics, union organizing and certification, collective agreements, and relevant regulations
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic partner to assist the organization within a multi-faceted union and non-union landscape
- Act as a partner to leaders and HR Business Partners by providing knowledge of how to properly handle LR issues, and provide advice on resolution
- Lead negotiations for collective bargaining agreements (CBA) with unions, including preparation for negotiations, leading employer committee, and managing administration of negotiation process
- Serve as the main liaison between the union and management for labour-related matters, resolving disputes and handling employee grievances efficiently in a multi-union environment.
- Experience in preparing and representing the company in arbitration, mediation, and other legal proceedings related to labour disputes.
- Provide formal training and informal coaching to supervisors and managers on managing in a unionized environment including CBA interpretation, assessing disciplinary penalties, and accommodation processes
- Monitor changes to labour laws, union policies, and transportation regulations that could affect labour relations and workforce management.
Requirements
Your Profile
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications that include, but are not limited to, the following
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of experience in labor relations, preferably in the transportation industry or another unionized environment.
- Proven experience in collective bargaining, grievance & arbitration handling, and labour law compliance in a unionized workforce.
- Exceptional negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to handle high-pressure situations, especially during labour disputes or contract negotiations.
- Proficiency in managing labour relations with geographically dispersed workforces and varied employee schedulesYou posses a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or a related field
- You posses a Clean Criminal Record Search
- You posses a full G Ontario drivers license and a clean drivers abstract
- You are strategic, have a strong professional presence, and possess strong planning and organization skills
- You have the ability to interact with all levels of the organization with consultative, partnering, facilitating, and influencing/negotiating skills
- You are committed to strong integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality and ability to manage sensitive information
- You are highly motivated and a self-starter with ability to manage multiple priorities
- You are proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and other common applications
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position, primarily in-office with some flexibility.
- Regional travel to support unionized locations and union business
- Extended hours may be required during negotiations, grievances, or arbitration periods.
