About Us

The Office of the Registrar (OOR) fosters a culture of student service excellence and is a key contributor to the overall student experience at Western, from the initial point of contact with prospects through to graduation and beyond.

Within the OOR, the Undergraduate Recruitment Office ensures successful achievement of Western’s undergraduate enrolment goals and strategic plans for growth, internationalization, and diversity by advising and supporting prospective students throughout the application and admission cycle. 
 

Responsibilities

The Director, Undergraduate Recruitment is responsible for researching and proposing effective and efficient recruitment strategies based in Canada and globally; and developing, organizing, and implementing the necessary programs, events, and other activities to recruit an academically strong and diverse undergraduate student body in a manner consistent with the University’s mission and strategic plan, while providing exceptional customer service. The Director also implements and monitors processes to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, and ensures adherence with University undergraduate enrolment objectives, and relevant recruitment policies, guidelines and procedures. The Director will manage resources, lead, and direct the work of others, and ensure appropriate controls are in place to manage risks. 

Qualifications

Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field
  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred 

Experience:

  • 7 years of experience in undergraduate recruitment or related field, with a proven track record of success in meeting enrollment targets
  • 5 years of progressive related work experience in an education setting
  • 3 years of experience leading teams and projects
  • Experience in strategic enrollment and international undergraduate recruitment
  • Marketing and strategic enrolment management experience is preferred 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of student recruitment and best practices in marketing and communications
  • Some knowledge of Higher Education information systems and CRM used to support student recruitment
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to develop a shared vision to lead and coach employees to excellence 
  • Project management skills to champion a project from conception to completion, and to ensure that team roles are clear, milestones are communicated and deadlines are met 
  • Ability to search within and outside the formal boundaries of the organization for innovative ways to improve work 
  • Ability to organize and effectively manage financial and human resources needed to achieve results 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and confidence dealing with all levels of an organization and demonstrated ability to write detailed procedural documentation and reports 
  • Strong attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language
  • Command of a second international language an asset 
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills (both creating and performing presentations) with demonstrated ability to conduct training sessions and instruct others 
  • Ability and willingness to stay abreast of relevant technological developments pertaining to recruitment of undergraduate students 
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply creativity, innovation and resourcefulness to daily work 
  • Strong customer service orientation with the ability to understand customer needs and expectations and provide excellent customer service directly and indirectly to satisfy expectations 
  • Ability to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment, meet tight deadlines and adapt to growth and change 
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours and travel to accommodate events and activities 
  • A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision and achieve results 
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office and computer skills with the ability to train others in system usage 
  • Technical knowledge and ability required to utilize social media platforms, multi-media, and web-based presentations, and general communication and engagement strategies for student populations 
  • Ability to establish and build healthy working relations and partnerships with clients, peers, and internal and external stakeholders and maintain lasting relationships. 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully plan and execute large-scale events 
  • Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion 
  • Capacity to value and demonstrate inclusivity, openness, civility, and respect and to understand and respect cultural and gender issues and apply this to daily work
  • A well-defined sense of diplomacy including solid negotiation, facilitation, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills with a consultative and collaborative approach to addressing issues and opportunities
  • Possession of a G level driver’s license and willingness and ability to drive in province and nationally to attend and support recruitment events
