Charge Preparation Coordinator (Temporary)

Position: (1) Charge Preparation Coordinator
Start Date: To be determined
Status: Temporary, Full Time

Salary: $52,125 (Starting) to $76, 085 (at 30 Months)

Position Summary:  
Working within a small team, Charge Preparation Coordinators are responsible for assembling, auditing, and processing all charge packages related to criminal and provincial charges.
           
Responsibilities

  • Assemble and audit all criminal and provincial charge packages.
  • Add entries to the Canadian Police Information Centre (CPIC) relating to Appearance Notices, Summonses, and Undertakings.
  • Prepare all Part I Provincial Offence matters to ensure they are filed with the Provincial Courts within the legislated timeframe.
  • Notify Officers when corrections are needed on Provincial Offence Matters.
  • Prepare Informations, summonses and disclosure of all Part lll and Long form Summons Provincial Offence matters.
  • Prepare packages and disclosure for Part I Provincial Offence matters Notice of Trials.
  • Request officer duty book notes and follow up with requests for disclosure of criminal and provincial matters as required.
  • Track received conduct fees from external agencies for member testimonies in Civilian matters.
  • Process Provincial Offence appeals requested from either defendant or prosecution.
  • Receive Early Resolution requests from Provincial Courts and prepare electronic court folder with disclosure needed.
  • Review, process, and disclose required Ministry of Transportation (MTO) reports and CPIC checks for all criminal and provincial charges.
  • Fulfill requests from Provincial Offence Act (POA) prosecution for additional disclosure.
  • Audit Part I and Part III offences, including Long Form Summons.
  • Review General occurrences and criminal Bench warrants for accuracy and ensure all required documents are attached for disclosure.
  • Maintain an accurate and current warrant log.
  • Respond to inquiries from officers regarding administrative procedures.
  • Perform general administrative duties such as filing, scanning, and photocopying.
  • Provide training to cadets and civilian staff on creating charge packages.
  • Edit and maintain Criminal, Federal, and Provincial Offence charge wordings with in-house references.
  • Other duties as assigned within the core competencies.

Requirements
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6-12 months’ experience in office administration or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills for decisions that usually involve selecting from one of several optimal or existing set of solutions or protocols.
  • Strong communication skills for regular contact with LPS members, community organizations, and members of the public to give, obtain and/or exchange routine information or decisions requiring general discussion, and explanation to ensure understanding.

Benefits/Pension:
Temporary members receive ten percent (10%) of their hourly rate in lieu of benefits (after 120 calendar days) and are also eligible to join the OMERS Pension Plan upon their first day of hire.

Hours of Duty:
Rotating 10-hour shifts; Monday to Sunday; 0600-1600 hrs.Members may be required to provide 24 hours per day coverage, subject to operational review as per Memorandum of Understanding
