Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the Manager, Provincial Offences Court Prosecutor, but takes day-to-day direction from a prosecutor.  This position provides a full range of paralegal, law clerk and administrative services including, but not limited to, litigation, prosecutions, board and tribunal hearings, by-laws, and administrative law activities of the Corporation to the extent permitted by applicable Law Society Rules and Regulations.  Maintains confidentiality required at law and by the Law Society of Ontario.

Work Performed:

  • Compile and review evidence, prepare exhibits, disclosure, and other required documentation, and ensuring their accuracy and completeness.
  • Preparation of all manner of legal documentation, opinions, reports, Winlow letters, summonses, motion materials, etc.
  • Ensure all manner of files contain all required documentation, exhibits, etc. for use at trial/hearing and early resolution meetings.
  • Liaise with defendants, opposing counsel, enforcement agencies.
  • Research and assist with the preparation of detail required for legal opinions, reports, court and tribunal proceedings, etc.
  • Keep apprised of changes in legislation, Rules of Practice, court procedures, etc. which affect areas of law practised by the Legal Services, and the Prosecutor’s Office as well as corporate procedures and policies.
  • Identification and execution of appropriate procedure to follow and documentation to prepare (may involve research).
  • Develop and modify procedures to assist prosecutors in performance of duties and to increase efficiency.
  • Compile statistics for use in reports.
  • Perform duties of and provide assistance to Manager, Provincial Offences Court Prosecutor.

  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year College Diploma in Paralegal or Law Clerk program.
  • Minimum of four years of related experience in a law office or an equivalent combination of education and related professional and lived community experience.
  • P1 Licence with Law Society of Ontario (LSO) is an asset.
  • Municipal Management Certificate is an asset.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in court procedures and applicable legislation with an understanding of the area’s programs and services. 
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal and customer services skills, including conflict resolution and problem solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective team member and contribute to programs and services provided by the team.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to prepare documents, reports, briefing materials, and responses to internal and external inquiries.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations within the community.
  • Ability to provide a high level of attention to detail. 
  • Ability to understand the importance of service delivery; contribute to the implementation of initiatives that support the section’s customers in a timely and effective way.
  • Strong organizational skills including but not limited to planning, prioritizing, time management and the ability to multi-task.
  • Initiative and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, and related software and database applications. 
     

Compensation & Other Information:

$58, 770-$76, 401

This posting is for one (1) permanent, full-time position. 

Current Hours of Work: Monday - Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

Work hours and work arrangement are subject to change in accordance with business requirements.
