Responsibilities

The Digital Communications Specialist will play a strategic role in implementing and supporting media relations efforts that share the goals, successes, and stories of the Office of the AVP, EDI, the University, and our faculty, staff, students & alumni.  The role will develop and execute proactive media relations strategies that support the implementation of strategic communication plans and related projects, and protect, promote, and enhance the reputation of the University and its people by delivering concise, accurate information that is consistent with all of Western's applicable guidelines.  

The role will liaise with internal and external community members and leaders related to the media and media relations activities, and work in collaboration with them to ensure Western’s EDI stories are told.  The Specialist will collect, analyze and share data to guide decisions and measure results of the communication strategies.  

The role will also assist with professional presentations, guides, videos and other learning initiatives to ensure a professional and engaging medium to further the EDI initiatives.

Our ideal candidate possesses a 4 year University Degree in Corporate Communications, Public Relations or a related field, with 3 years of experience in communications using mixed digital media, or a 3 year Community College Diploma with extensive experience.  They are committed to continuous learning and adding to their professional qualifications. They will have a passion for equity, diversity and inclusion with a desire to contribute to the success of Western’s EDI Office using a variety of digital channels.  The candidate will help develop processes and best practices around customer engagement.
