YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. We are one of the largest not-for-profit providers of licensed child care in Canada and have over 100 school age programs across our regions. We also offer settlement services to newcomers, employment programs, mental health support, and youth programs. YMCA of Southwestern Ontario operates two overnight camps, one in Point Pelee National Park, and one on Beausoleil Island in Muskoka. We also have 15 Health & Fitness branches across Southwestern Ontario.

Position: Outtrip Leader
Location: YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth, Beausoleil Island
Start Date: June 22, 2024
End Date: August 23, 2024
Salary: $725/week

In this role, you will:
• Form positive individual relationships with participants
• Ensure that participants’ life needs are met while at camp and on trip
• Provide adequate and engaged supervision of participants while at camp and on trip
• Proactively manage emotional and physical risk for participants and staff members on trip
• Respond quickly and effectively to trip-related accidents and incidents
• Adhere to internal policies and procedures as well as OCA and CQRP standards regarding all trip activities
• Pack all food and equipment for trip, paying attention to dietary restrictions for participants
• Effectively identifie and manages risk on trip
• Complete a detailed trip proposal and route plan for each trip
• Be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
• Embrace and exemplify the Y’s core values

Other Job Details:
• This is a seasonal position and the successful candidate is required to live onsite at YMCA Camp Queen Elizabeth for the duration of their contract, with the majority of their time spend on canoe trips.

Education and Skills Qualifications:
• Holds current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate
• Holds current NL certificate
• Holds current Wilderness Advanced First Aid certificate
• Hold current ORCKA Tripping 3 and ORCKA Moving Water 1+2 certificates
• Holds current Swiftwater Rescue Technician 1/Whitewater Rescue Technician certificate
• Holds a clear Criminal Record Check including Vulnerable Position Screening
• 3 years of experience working with children and youth in an outdoor or recreational setting is an asset
• Legally entitled to work in Canada
