Summary:

 Recreation programs provide all citizens the opportunity to improve self-esteem, motor skills, creativity, physical fitness, and social skills through a variety of crafts, arts, and physical activities.

Role:

Reporting to a Supervisor, Recreation Services, the Adult/Older Adult Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading high-quality fitness programs at specific site locations throughout the City of London. This casual position works as part of a team in a public facing fast paced environment ensuring recreation programs are run efficiently to meet the needs of the participants while providing excellent customer service to City of London patrons and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead high quality fitness programs for adults and older adults 55+ that ensure participants are fully engaged and having fun in a safe environment. 
  • Create and implement program plans with the support of resources provided by Supervisors.
  • Maintain daily records of attendance, accident reports, injuries, and safety checks.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills and a positive and professional attitude when communicating with participants, the public, school personnel and co-workers.
  • Communicate program supply needs to Coordinator/ Supervisor as required.
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are in safe working condition and report any concerns to Coordinator/Supervisor.
  • Assist with the distribution of program literature as required.
  • Demonstrate commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and human rights through practices and interactions with community partners, employees and individuals and support programs and initiatives that reflect this commitment. 
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Health and Safety legislation and programs; actively promote a culture of safety.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Experience working with adults in a recreation environment, with a minimum of one year fitness teaching experience an asset.
  • Certification in fitness required: Can Fit Pro FIS certification, Center of Activity and Aging or equivalent; or Yoga Certification from a recognized provider with a minimum of 200 training hours; or Pilates Certification from a recognized provider preferably Stott Pilates; or Zumba Certification from a recognized provider with a certification in specialized Zumba classes including Zumba Toning, or Zumba Gold.
  • Standard First Aid (prior to the start of the program).
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (Prior to the start of the program)

Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience working with adults in a recreation environment, with a minimum of one year fitness teaching experience an asset.
  • Certification in fitness required: Can Fit Pro (FIS), Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology (CSEP), Center of Activity and Aging (SFIC) or equivalent.
  • Standard First Aid (prior to the start of the program).
  • Vulnerable Sector Police Check (VSPC) (Prior to the start of the program).
     

Other Information:

Starting Wage: $23.00 per hour
