Accountant       

An exciting career opportunity for an enthusiastic team member who embraces challenges, works well independently and can think calmly under pressure

Reporting to the Financial Services Manager, and as a member of the accounting group, you will demonstrate your excellent analytical and communication skills in performing various financial and statistical analyses, accounting, and general ledger reconciliations, and assisting with the budgeting process, monitoring of operation results and external audits.

Specifically, as an Accountant and a member of the accounting group, you will:

  • Monitor cost distribution and maintain policies and procedures for compliance with accounting standards and regulatory directives.
  • Complete various general ledger reconciliations, journal entries, indirect cost allocations and import subsystem transactions in an accurate and timely manner, including identifying, researching and correcting errors.
  • Review operating activities of business areas, perform analyses, discuss results, and obtain explanations for variances between budget and actual spending.
  • Monitor corporate activities to pursue betterments in internal systems and controls.
  • Assist in the completion of monthly and year-end financial reporting as well as year-end process, including completion of working papers and external auditor inquiries.
  • Handle reconciliations, remittances and annual reporting in connection with various remittances such as T4s, T5s, T4As, EHT, WSIB, OMERS, HST and NR withholdings.
  • Assist in the development of the operating budget, including creating and revising the budget package, performing analyses and projections, and spreading the budget to the appropriate accounting period.
  • Design, maintain and complete various financial reports and statistical analyses to support financial results.
  • Assist in completing the periodic regulated rate application, and maintain appropriate analysis and documentation to support the application and other special projects as they arise.
  • Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety Act rules and regulations, the E&USA rule book and London Hydro work practices.
  • Perform other duties related to the above job purpose.

The qualified Accountant we seek will be able to meet the following requirements:

  • Completion of a recognized accounting program (CA, CMA or CGA) or current enrollment in the final level of the program.
  • Proficiency in financials software – JD Edwards, as well as Excel, Word and Access.
  • 4 years of commensurate progressive accounting, auditing and financial analysis experience.
