Summary of Duties:

Reporting to the General Manager, Tourism London Inc., the Manager, Culture and Entertainment Tourism is responsible for advancing culture, entertainment and leisure travel strategies and the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of programs that include culinary, recreation, theatrical, heritage and family entertainment sectors, in addition to assuming responsibility for the marketing, publicity and social media strategy for all sectors within Tourism London. 

Work Performed:

  • Provide leadership in the coordination and delivery of Culture and Entertainment Visitation Strategy and Leisure and Culture Tourism Visitation Strategy that contribute to the implementation of strategic initiatives for Tourism London.
  • Responsible for managing employees including hiring, coaching, administration, and performance of reporting employees. Respond to sensitive and confidential human resource issues as required. 
  • Provide leadership in the execution and delivery of services and programs in the following areas of accountability:
    • Undertake and coordinate the development and implementation of all advertising activities of Tourism London, supporting both its programs and services and co-op based advertising, along with all related implementation and evaluation tasks for all product areas and event advertising support.
    • Develop and implement a Culture and Entertainment Visitation Strategy and programs for London connected to Tourism London's Strategic Plan.
    • Develop and implement a Leisure and Culture Tourism Visitation Strategy and programs for London connected to broader regional leisure and culture tourism initiatives through partnerships, co-op advertising, social media, joint product development initiatives and other activities through the Southern Ontario Tourist Organization, other regional, provincial and National tourist bodies, neighbouring and regional municipalities, private sector partnerships and others that may apply.
    • Oversee on behalf of Tourism London, the creation, maintenance and monitoring of all marketing and media relations initiatives. Responsible for media buying, negotiations, maintenance and monitoring of London advertising and promotional campaigns.
    • Work with London-based attractions, events and other operators and sponsors to enhance their attendance and long-term viability through the provision of technical supports relative to organizational, product, marketing and related development.
    •  Work through the Southwestern Ontario Tourism Corporation (SWOTC) and other regional, provincial, national and international bodies to develop partnerships, advertising and promotional strategies, linkages and related considerations to support the growth and development of attractions and events.
    • Work with external contractors with respect to the preparation, production and dissemination of Tourism London printed materials, videos and related promotional, training and other resources.

  • Provide updates, information and recommendations to the General Manager, Tourism London on priorities with responsibility to operationalize identified goals and strategies.

  • Identify and recommend internal controls in the form of policies, procedures, practices in relation to the general and specific risks to Tourism London; ensure internal controls are implemented, monitored and reported on specific to Tourism London.
  • Promote and foster working relationships with employees and bargaining units to provide a fair and consistent application of provisions within the collective agreement.
  • Encourage and support employee participation and commitment to individual, divisional, and organizational objectives.  Actively mentor, provide development opportunities and build a high-level team performance with direct reports.
  • Engage in opportunities to work across Tourism London and external partners to develop and implement advertising, promotional and tourism-focused business development strategies related to sector growth and development.
  • Prepare reports for Council and various Committees as required.

  • Identify, recommend, adapt and implement innovative, effective and efficient work practices and procedures to improve service delivery and the business responsibilities of the team.
  • Working with the General Manager, develop an annual plan related to product initiatives and implementation strategies. Track performance measures for Unit deliverables, using appropriate data collection and analytics.
  • Participate in overall market, strategic, budgetary and related planning for Tourism London.
  • Prepare an annual budget for the operating unit and undertake monthly budget analysis for the portfolio, providing variance assessments and improvement strategies and opportunities in conjunction with the General Manager.
  • Represent the Service Area at Standing Committees and Council meetings as required.
  • Prepare responses to inquiries from elected officials, media and the public as requested by the General Manager, Tourism London.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a Post Secondary Diploma or University Degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Business, Marketing or in a relevant area of study or equivalent combination of education and related professional and lived community experience.
  • Five to seven years of related experience in the tourism industry, including marketing experience in the culture and entertainment sector as well as management responsibilities. 
  • A valid driver's license is required.

Skills and Abilities:

  •  Demonstrated knowledge and experience in marketing, media buying and promotional planning with an understanding of Tourism London's programs and services and how the work of the area aligns with the Tourism industry.
  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge in media relations and developing and implementing social media plans.
  • Demonstrated capability of managing multiple tasks to tight deadlines and flexibility to adapt quickly and creatively to changing circumstances.
  • Demonstrated analytical and business planning skills with a proven track record for effectively implementing and monitoring programs and services.
  • Demonstrated positive and proactive leadership capabilities, adept at leading a group of employees, contracted services, external partners and consultants; demonstrated commitment to developing high performance teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire the people they lead through productive and honest dialogue, with personal integrity and actions.
  • Ability to be a trusted advisor and/or advocate in sensitive and/or emotionally charged situations.
  • Demonstrated perseverance and resilience in addressing and escalating as required, challenges and emergent issues.

  • Proven commitment to the safety of employees with knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and applicable regulations as it relates to the position.
  • Ability to provide a high level of attention to detail, make sense of data and solve problems.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and customer services skills, including conflict resolution and problem solving; demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with diverse populations within the community; experience working collaboratively with organizations, clients, and other individuals. Political acumen to identify and manage issues.
  • Ability to understand the importance of service delivery; implement initiatives that support the section’s customers in a timely and effective way.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office, and related software and database applications.
  • Ability to work outside typical business hours as required.

Compensation & Other Information:

$99,156 - $129,818

This posting is for 1 permanent, full-time position.

Standard hours of work: Monday-Friday from 8:30am - 4:30pm; as noted above this position requires the ability to work outside of the typical business hours as required.

Work Arrangement: Hybrid

These hours of work and work arrangement are subject to change in accordance to business requirements.
