Paint Technician

Don Mor Carstar is London’s #1 full-service quality collision and mechanical repair facility. Operating since 1980. Don Mor Carstar employs the latest technology and most skilled service technicians. We are a CAA approved collision center and our facility is rated “Gold Class” status by I-CAR.

Due to consistent growth, our large collision center is looking for our next Paint Technician. This position will be responsible for ensuring that all finished projects consistently exceed our high-quality level in a fast-paced body shop atmosphere. In this role, you will also collaborate effectively with the team to achieve efficient vehicle flow, while ensuring quality standards are met to reduce and eliminate re-work.

Position Requirements:

  • Restore vehicle paint to original condition as per manufacturer’s specifications.

  • Select appropriate paint or mix paints using automated paint mixing equipment according to a predetermined formula.

  • Operate equipment to clean, wash, strip, sand, remove corrosion, fill dents or otherwise prepare items for the application of topcoat or other protective or decorative coatings.

  • Operate automated spray paint, dip or flow coating equipment or other mechanized painting or product coating application equipment.

  • Operate compliant hand-held spray guns to spray paint or coat large items with protective or decorative coatings.

  • Preparing surfaces for painting by eliminating old paint, filling in holes, and fixing damage.

  • Blending paint hues to attain the intended outcome.

  • Verifying adequate coverage and a flawless finish.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of proven experience as an auto body painter with a strong portfolio showcasing current/previous work is required.

  • Industry experience is a requirement.

  • Current experience with paint equipment and tools to apply primer, base coat, and clear coat, following manufacturer specifications and shop standards.

  • Documentation: Accurately complete all required documentation, including work orders, paint usage records, and quality control checklists, to ensure proper documentation and process tracking.

  • Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively and work closely with the team in the Paint department, the Estimators, Body Technicians, and Detailers, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of assigned project work.

  • Technical Skills: Carry out finishing tasks, including buffing, polishing, and correcting any paint imperfections, to achieve the flawless results our customers require.

  • Knowledge: Understanding of different types of paints, primers, and finishes, as well as their application methods. Regularly maintain and clean all paint equipment, ensuring equipment is in optimal condition to prevent contamination and ensure consistent quality. Proficiency in color mixing, surface preparation, and various painting techniques.

  • Detail-Oriented: Keen attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality work, on time and meet or exceed customer expectations. Continue to inspect completed work meticulously to ensure it meets our quality standards and customer expectations, making any necessary touch-ups or corrections.

  • Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to troubleshoot and address issues or imperfections effectively.

  • Safety: Adherence to the Occupational Health and Safety Act, JHSC recommendations and proper PPE is sized correctly and worn.

  • Physical Stamina: Required to stand, bend, twist, reach, lift, and walk for extended periods and may perform physically demanding tasks.

  • Outgoing, enthusiastic and a self-starter

  • Solid interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

  • Organized, solid time management skills

Certifications:

  • Auto Body Repair Techniques Certification

  • Training in auto body painting, preferably in a Collision Shop

  • 90-Line Refinish Training

  • DuPont Fixed Glass Installation – is preferred

  • BASF Refinish Training – is preferred

  • BASF Technical Training – is an asset

  • Automotive Refinish Technician Warranty Certification

  • Glasurit 22/55/90 Line Systems Analysis Certification – is an asset

  • Paint Specific Current Experience: Maintain superior proficiency in accurately mixing and applying 90-Line and 100-Line waterborne paints, ensuring color matching and quality finishes on all vehicles. Familiarity with computerized paint mixing systems and paint-related software is advantageous.
