Manager of Finance & Operations
At Valora Place (formerly Violence Against Women Services Elgin County), our doors are always open – 24 hours a day. We serve women (cis & transgender) and their children who are experiencing harm in their relationships or struggling with how they’re feeling. We support family, friends, and co-workers too. Care is immediate, respectful, and compassionate. Each year over 2,000 people find the help they seek.
24-Hour Services are deliveredthrough our Community Help Line, Drop-In Support, and Emergency Shelter to offer immediate support; right when it’s needed most.
Community Based Services are delivered in person by appointment to support women who have experienced abuse, women who have experienced sexual assault; women who are looking for support with housing; women who are navigating family court; and children who have witnessed abuse.
We are currently hiring a FULL TIME Manager of Finance & Operations. Work is 40 hours a week in person in St. Thomas. The annual salary range is $65,000 to $75,000.
Shared Responsibilities:
Creating a compassionate, warm, and welcoming place in the service of mighty women and their children is a responsibility shared by the entire Valora Place team. The following are tasks shared by all caring souls on our team on a day to day basis.
- Answering the phone and connecting the caller to the right colleague.
- Welcoming women and children when they arrive in person and making sure they have what they need including making coffee and tea and serving it to folks.
- Participating in the shared effort to make possible beautiful gatherings and events with our community as we work together to make our corner of the world safer for all.
Finance & Operations Responsibilities
Finance:
The Manager of Finance & Operations works closely with the Executive Director to develop the budgets of the agency and is also responsible for:
- Accounts Payables, Receivables, & Remittances.
- Bank Deposits and Bank Reconciliations.
- Journal Entries and Accruals.
- Payroll processing and the administration of Agency Benefits Plan.
- Donation Database Management including entry, mailings, and receipts.
- Monthly Financial Statements.
- Quarterly Funder Reports and Annual Reconciliations.
- Monthly Audit Preparation and Annual Audit Support.
- Notice of change filings for the Corporations Act and Annual Charitable Return
- Monitoring and controlling expenses within budget parameters, deliverables for the fiscal year, agency strategic plan, and funder requirements.
- Managing agency capital assets including asset inventory, depreciation, and making recommendations for replacement.
- Maintaining up to date documentation of procedures and forms, and organized records of financial transactions, operational activities, and compliance documents.
- Developing and implementing risk management strategies and plans to safeguard the organization’s assets and operations.
- Ensuring agency compliance with all relevant laws and regulations including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; Funder Contracts; Ontario Employment Standards Act; and Income Tax Act.
Operations:
- Management of Program Supply Inventory including procuring agency supplies and services, management of vendor contracts, and maintaining up to date program inventory database.
- Management of Program Service Database including input of service deliverables and evaluation results and creation of monthly program data reports.
- Management of Agency Records including ensuring secure and effective storage systems for all records of the agency and meeting retention timelines required.
- Ensuring agency compliance with all relevant laws and regulations including Procurement Regulations and Privacy Legislation.
Qualifications

- Hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field.
- Have a minimum of five years of accounting experience with at least two years in management. Work experience in a non-profit setting is preferred.
- Understand nonprofit compliance, accounting standards, and regulations.
- Evidence high ethical standards, mature judgment, and ability to manage confidential and sensitive issues in a professional manner that is attentive to safety needs and mitigation of risk.
- Demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Are organized, able to prioritize, and attentive to meeting deadlines.
- Have strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
- Are technically proficient in QuickBooks and Excel.
- Are able to lift up to 30lbs.
You will also be required to provide a current and clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Persons Screen.
