About the Role 
The Venture Growth Project Specialist is a key point of contact for a high volume of startup and scale-up ventures participating in TechAlliance programs focused on accelerating growth of high-potential enterprises in key sectors. The role will work alongside ventures to ensure their successful completion of program expectations, project milestones, and reporting and financial requirements. They will be a partner in the venture’s success, as such, this role will enhance opportunities for founders and create positive impacts within Ontario’s innovation economy.  

Working closely with other members of the Venture Growth team, the Venture Growth Project Specialist will have end to end ownership of projects and will partner with other team members on areas such as marketing campaigns to identify prospects or partners, storytelling, press and earned media for projects, founder journeys and venture profiles. The Venture Growth Project Specialist will collaborate closely with stakeholders and other ecosystem partners to ensure accurate metrics, narratives for reports, and budget alignment where needed.  

The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep alignment with TechAlliance’s overall mission; strive to improve Southwestern Ontario and Canadian innovation to drive positive societal and economic outcomes; have project management experience and a strong financial acumen; a knowledge in content creation, public and media relations; and ideally have prior experience in the technology or innovation space as a founder, leader or operator.  

Reporting to the Manager, Venture Growth you will 
  • Provide guidance to companies by assisting with client project development, milestones, and disbursement of grant funds. 
  • Respond to client inquiries and act as the main point of contact for prospective clients, fund recipients and the internal TechAlliance Venture Growth team. 
  • Lead the review and selection of applicants, for funding opportunities, including recruitment of new prospects by attending regional tech and entrepreneurship experiences across each of the five counties we serve, in a business development capacity (may be outside of standard business hours). 
  • Contribute to and/or lead partner meetings while advocating for the unique mandate of TechAlliance and our client companies to stakeholders, collaborators, and ecosystem connections.  
  • Work closely with members of the TechAlliance Venture Growth team to ensure all client companies receive equitable and appropriate level of service and ongoing support through the Startup Advisors, Growth Coaches or Entrepreneurs-in-Residence, while making referrals where appropriate.  
  • Be responsible for the integrity of data collection and maintenance in TechAlliance’s CRM and actively lead performance reporting internally and to funders.  
  • Develop program specific copy, maintain and push content for project webpage, social media campaigns, press releases and other earned media.  

What you need to succeed  
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent post-secondary education in entrepreneurship, business, communications, marketing, public relations, or project management preferred. 
  • Client-facing experience activating a client-centric, consultative approach. Loves connecting 1:1 with founders, industry leaders and tech talent. 
  • Strong team player with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and stealth project management capabilities. 
  • Be creative and resourceful with challenges, leading with a solutions-focused approach. 
  • Embrace and seek out opportunities for self-improvement and development. 
  • In-depth knowledge of principles of writing, including grammar and style, attention to detail, and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language.  
  • Superior oral and written communications skills including active listening and demonstrating professionalism in both presentation and demeanor.  
  • Entrepreneur or experience in a startup or scaling tech venture, an asset.  
  • Knowledge of theory and best practice in media relations and public affairs, and of marketing fundamentals, campaigns, and trends, would be an asset.  
  • Acute understanding of social media platforms from content, audience, and technical perspective, and active on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Instagram.  
  • Dedicated team player who can contribute to a vibrant team culture and core values, while prioritizing multiple and changing demands.  
  • Exceptional attention to detail with excellent planning and time management while working independently and with ambiguity.  
  • Highly self-motivated, innovative thinker with a creative flair and passion.  
  • Demonstrated success in building credibility, managing relationships, and proactively collaborating with multiple internal and external stakeholders.  
  • Knowledge of and active connector to key ecosystem players in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, and the globe. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Salesforce, Slack, MailChimp, Canva, and Eventbrite.  
  • Valid driver's license, access to a vehicle, and resides in Elgin, Huron, Lambton, Middlesex, or Oxford County.
