YMCA of Southwestern Ontario was founded in 1856 and has over 200 locations from Goderich to Point Pelee, and Windsor to Woodstock. Position: Aquatics Manager
Summary: This role focuses on creating and delivering excellent aquatic programs and member engagement, which includes direct leadership, managing financials, and seeking new revenue streams. Additionally, it involves recruiting, training, and mentoring aquatics staff and volunteers, ensuring a safe and effective work environment with adherence to safety protocols and health regulations.

Start Date: May 12, 2025
Salary: $50,000 to $53,500
Schedule: This role involves shared responsibility with another manager to ensure operational coverage across all 7 days of the week. Shifts will vary including days, evenings and weekends.
In this role, you will:
Program Development & Delivery:
Responsible for designing, scheduling, and delivering high-quality aquatic programs and member engagement activities. This includes direct leadership in the delivery of programs, modeling and mentoring excellence in service. The role also involves teaching as needed, as well as managing pool rentals to support revenue generation. In addition, administration of swim lessons rosters and communication with families happens daily.
Staff Training & Mentorship:
Responsible for recruitment, training, and ongoing mentorship of aquatics staff and volunteers to ensure exceptional service delivery. Promoting the YMCA as an Employer of Choice and facilitating smooth transitions into YMCA employment from leadership courses. Oversee program leaders to maintain a safe and effective work environment, uphold safety protocols, and ensure accurate record keeping in compliance with public health regulations and governing organization’s standards.
Financial Management:
Expected to oversee the budget effectively, ensuring resources are allocated appropriately and expenditures are controlled to meet financial goals. Also responsible for monitoring financial performance, identifying potential risks or opportunities, and making informed decisions to contribute to the organization's financial stability and growth.
Compliance, Safety & Facility Maintenance:
Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations, including YMCA standards, Lifesaving Society standards, equipment purchasing, and documentation per Public Health Regulation 565. Collaboration with the Facility Manager is essential to uphold standards for both the pool environment and supporting infrastructure above and below deck.
Required Qualifications
What You’ll Bring:
- Post secondary education in a related field
- A minimum of one (2) year of supervisory experience in an aquatic or recreation setting, with demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop staff.
- Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C Certification is required to ensure readiness in emergency situations and compliance with safety standards.
- Current National Lifeguard Certification
- Current YMCA and/or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor Certifications
- Current Lifesaving Society Lifesaving Instructor Certification
- Strong leadership skills with emphasis on coaching, teamwork, development and influencing others
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to represent the Association professionally in interactions with internal stakeholders and/or external communities.
- This role requires physical stamina and attentiveness, with extended periods of standing, sitting, or movement. Must be capable of assisting with emergency responses, including supporting or lifting participants as needed, and safely handling pool chemicals and maintenance tasks.
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must provide a current criminal record check as per the Association’s policy
A Major Asset if:
- You have worked in non-profit, charity or public sector organizations.
- National Lifeguard Instructor/Examiner certification is an asset, indicating a higher level of leadership and instructional ability in lifeguard training.
- Aquafit Instructor Certification is considered an asset, enabling the Supervisor to support and deliver a wider range of fitness programming. Can be obtained on the job.
- YMCA Aquatic Trainer Certification is preferred, demonstrating a high level of expertise in training and developing aquatic staff. Can be obtained on the job.
