Position: Team Lead, Aquatics
Location: Startech.com YMCA
Start Date: September 2024
As part of your total compensation: $17.05 Per hour

In this role, you will:

• Follow YMCA of Southwestern Ontario policy and procedures
• Act as a YMCA ambassador, demonstrating YMCA core values in your daily work

• Assist the department supervisor in the development, and delivery of Aquatics programs and member engagement activities

• In coordination with the department supervisor, train and mentor all volunteer team members for the purpose of delivering excellence in customer service through Aquatics programs and services
• Provide direct leadership in programs modeling/mentoring service excellence
• Regular usage of pool chemicals and cleaning supplies for water and deck equipment maintenance

• 90-100% of work time is spent in the pool or on the pool deck/waterfront in moist, humid climate conditions
• Role model YMCA Standards, YMCA Values and Commitment to Service
• Direct program delivery of most Aquatics programs on a consistent basis is required, including instructing Aqua fitness as needed
• Ensure all policies and procedures are being followed

• Be committed to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging


Education and Skills Qualifications:

Required Certifications (must be current):
• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard - Pool (current certificate required)
• Standard First Aid and CPR-C (current certificate from Lifesaving Society, Red Cross or St. John’s Ambulance)
• YMCA Swim Instructor or Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor or Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (current certificate required)
• Lifesaving Society Instructor and Emergency First Aid Instructor (current certificate required)
• Lifesaving Society National Lifeguard Instructor, Standard First Aid Instructor and Advance Examiner an asset
• YMCA Aquatic Trainer certification an asset
• Secondary School Diploma
• Minimum 2 years lifeguard and swim instruction experience
• Experience working with children, youth, and adults
• Exceptional communication skills, relationship-building skills, and organizational skills
• Current and acceptable Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening is a condition of employment for all staff and volunteers
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
• It is a YMCA of Southwestern Ontario requirement that all employees and volunteers be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Exemptions will be granted upon receipt of acceptable proof of a permissible Human Rights Code ground. This requirement has been suspended effective June 30, 2022. It may be reinstated in future should the state of public health in our communities require it.
